Psalm 100:1-4

Psalm 100
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!

Take a moment today to reflect on God, and who He is. What does it mean to be His creation? Verse three says that God made us and we are his; we are his people, and are the sheep of his pasture. We were made by Him, for Him.

I like the picture of God as our shepherd- guiding us, caring for us, protecting us. What are we to do for him? This chapter explains that. God created us to bring Him glory. We do that by making a joyful noise to him (vs. 1), serving him with gladness (vs. 2), coming into his presence in singing (vs. 2), giving him thanksgiving and praise (vs. 4), and blessing his name (vs. 4).

This sounds simple… we sing praises to him at church on Sunday, serve him through teaching Sunday school, manning the nursery, or greeting others, and share with others how thankful we are for God’s blessings in our lives. But what about the rest of the week?

Do you live in a state of praise to God? So much so that you make a ‘joyful noise’ to him, even on your own? (Note- it just has to be joyful, it doesn’t have to be good J). Do you serve him with gladness in each of the roles he has called you to- student, spouse, parent, employee, sibling, friend, etc. In everything, do you give Him thanks, even when things aren’t easy or prayer isn’t answered the way you wanted- because you know He is well aware of what is best for you? These are our roles as His creation. Live for Him, bringing Him glory.
