Psalm 101
2
I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will you come to
me?
I will walk with integrity of heart
within my house;
3
I will not set before my eyes
anything that is worthless.
I hate the
work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.
4
A perverse heart shall be far from me;
I will know nothing of evil.
5
Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy.
Whoever has a haughty
look and an arrogant heart
I will not endure.
“I
will ponder the way that is blameless.” How are you living your life? Are you
walking in a way that is blameless? This doesn’t mean you are sinless, but it
does mean you are not holding hands with sin, inviting it in your front door.
The way God lays out the blameless way through the words of David is not an easy
way to follow, but it is worth it.
I will walk with
integrity of heart within my house- vs. 2. Are you walking in integrity- doing what
is right, even when no one is watching? Even when you are home alone, in your
room alone, or at work all alone?
I will not set before
my eyes anything that is worthless- vs 3. What are you spending your time watching?
What (or in some cases who) are you allowing your eyes to look at? Some of you
are spending time looking at things that are an abomination to God. Maybe you
aren’t watching anything “bad,” but is it worthless? Is there a better way to
spend your time?
I hate the work of
those who fall away; it shall not cling to me- vs 3. Are you in the company of those
who are engaging in sin? If you are walking in the way that is blameless, these
people do not surround you.
A perverse heart shall
be far from me; I will know nothing of evil- vs. 4. David is pledging beyond not
doing what is wrong- he will not want what is wrong, even in his heart. Is your
heart evil in its ways? Do you still desire sinful things, even though you
aren’t pursuing them?
Whoever slanders his
neighbor secretly I will destroy- vs. 5. Are you a gossip? Are your
friends gossips? Run the other way. You cannot stand in a crowd of people that
are gossiping and remain free of sin, even if you do not contribute to the
conversation. You either need to walk away or call out the sin occurring. This
should not be the company you keep.
Whoever has a haughty
look and an arrogant heart
I will not endure- vs. 5. Are you disrespectful or are you
in a group of friends that are disrespectful? Arrogant? Haughty and stuck up?
Humble yourself and find friends who do the same.
Living
the Christian life is about so much more than just trying not to sin. Its even
more than reading your Bible and spending time in prayer. You must evaluate the
rest of your time and the people you surround yourself with. Is your way
blameless? Is it a reflection of your relationship with God?
Are you
safeguarding yourself from sin that creeps in? Are you surrounded by people who
are walking in integrity, that aren’t gossips, and aren’t living in sin?
In
verse six David says he will look for the faithful in the land. If your friends
don’t meet these qualifications, you might need to look for the ‘faithful in
the land.’
Don’t
just reject sin when it presents itself-- walk in the way that is blameless, in
the way that does not entertain sin or temptation. Avoid it like the plague and pursue the things of God.

Timothy 2:22- So flee youthful passions and pursue
righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord
from a pure heart.
