Psalm 112:7-8

Psalm 112
He is not afraid of bad news;
 his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
His heart is steady; he will not be afraid,
 until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.

Why do so many of us live in fear? For many, fear controls us and keeps us from things. Maybe we are afraid of sharing our faith, going on a mission trip, or surrendering all we have to Christ…

In this chapter, it says that the righteous person that fears the Lord is not afraid. He is not afraid of bad news or of his adversaries. It is not because he won’t get bad news or because he won’t face adversity. When witnessing to others, you may get rejected. When on a mission trip, you might just contract an illness or get stuck in a scary situation… and lets face it, giving everything over to God is intimidating.

However, the righteous man who fears the Lord is not afraid because his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. He is sure that the Lord will prevail, no matter what. He has faith in the power of God and is sure that whatever the outcome, God is in control. My pastor once said that fear is a lack of faith. If you are fearful, consider where your lack of faith is in God and His sovereignty. Give it over to Him today.

Isaiah 41:13- For I, the Lord your God,
 hold your right hand;
it is I who say to you, “Fear not,
 I am the one who helps you.”
