Psalm 79
8
Do not remember against us our former iniquities; let your compassion
come speedily to meet us,
for we are brought very low.
9
Help
us, O God of our salvation,
for the glory of your name;
deliver us, and atone
for our sins, for your name's sake!
Each
of us would likely agree with the first two parts of verse eight-- God, please
don’t remember my sins and please have compassion on me. We probably pray
something similar to this daily. God is happy to answer us, forgetting our sin
and lavishing His love on us. But, where do you stand regarding the last part
of verse eight- for we are brought very low?
Have
you humbled yourself before God? Have you been made low before Him, recognizing
your need for a Savior and His intervention? God’s forgiveness to you comes
when you humble yourself, recognizing the need for His atonement because it is
something you cannot fulfill yourself. Then, as a result of that humility, the
forgiveness and help received from God brings glory to Himself according to
verse nine.
Your
humility as you recognize your need for God is what brings God glory. It is
also what will spread the gospel through your life. Do others recognize the
faith you have in God? Can they tell you are a Christian? If not, you probably
need to humble yourself in front of others, conveying the need for an almighty
Savior. Humble yourself- unafraid of what others will think or how you might
look.
We
often worry that when others do finally know that we are Christians, they will
see each mistake we make and remember only those things, attaching our faults
to our faith. Humble yourself. You will mess up. Share with those that hold
your mistakes against you that those mistakes are the very reason you cling so
closely to God. In humility, come before God and in humility, share God’s love
with others to bring Him glory.

Chronicles 7:14- If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and
pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from
heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Psalm
149:4- For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with
salvation.
