Psalm 94:7-11

Psalm 94
And they say, “The Lord does not see;
the God of Jacob does not perceive.”
Understand, O dullest of the people! Fools, when will you be wise?
He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
 He who formed the eye, does he not see?
10
He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke?
 He who teaches man knowledge—
11
The Lord—knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath.

Since the dawn of time, God’s Creation has been trying to keep things from Him. Adam and Eve hid in the garden so that God wouldn’t find out their sin. Jonah tried to hide out in the bottom of a boat to escape God. Maybe you don’t actually say “The Lord does not see” (v.7), because you are aware God see everything. But why do your actions not reflect this?

If we really lived in the awareness that we cannot hide our sin from God, how would that change our behavior? How would we live our lives if we realized that the sin we thought we did in secret, we did with an audience of God?

Think about the words that you choose to use… the things you say to others… what you say about others… how you react when you’re angry… how you discuss the opposite sex… “He who planted the ear, does he not hear?” (vs. 9).

What about your actions? How do you spend your time when no one is around? If you lived like God was visibly at our side, how would it affect what you watch… what you do when no one is home… where you go… the integrity you have when a cashier gives you too much change, someone drops money, or you end up with something you didn’t pay for? “He who formed the eye, does he not see?”
And then, the hardest one of all to discipline--- our thoughts; if we lived like God was watching the scrolling list of thoughts in our minds, how would it change what we think about others… our thoughts about ourselves… your thoughts when your authority gives you direction… when you’re stuck in traffic… what you think about when you are lying in bed at night… “The Lord knows the thoughts of man” (vs. 11).

Indeed God does hear each word you say. He is watching every action you choose to make. He is aware of each thought you allow to steep in your mind.

Hebrews 4:13- And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
