II Corinthians 9:8

2 Corinthians 9

8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

This entire chapter is about sowing and reaping. Paul says that if you give a little, you will only get a little. Give much, and you’ll get much. So many of us live in fear of giving too much over to God. If I give too much money, I won’t have enough to live on this week… If I give Him too much control over my life, I will have to give up everything I enjoy. If I give too much time, I won’t have enough time for everything else in my life.

These statements go against the very thing this chapter teaches. God is able to give you what you need. Many distort the principle of sowing and reaping and say that if you give God a little, He will give you much. Give $10, He’ll give you $100. This just isn’t true. But God does know what you need financially, personally, and spiritually.

Verse eight promises that if you give of yourself to God, He will ensure that you have all you need. I think this applies to every area of our lives. We will have the means. The time. The skills. All of it. Will we have these things for our own selfish gain? No. The second part of this verse says God provides for us through His grace that we may abound in every good work. He provides these things so that we can serve Him without distraction. Commit to serving Him and allow God to work out the details.
