Psalm 119
9
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By
guarding it according to your word.
10
With my whole heart I seek you;
let
me not wander from your commandments!
11
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that
I might not sin against you.
It
took a long time for me to get serious about reading the Bible every day. Part
of me would want to, but since I didn’t make it a priority, the end of the day
would come without spending anytime in Scripture. I think many can relate to
this. Some of us don’t even think about. Maybe you go to church several times a
week, pray a lot, even listen to Christian podcasts. But are you in the Word of
God?
Getting
in God’s Word and committing it to your memory is important. In this passage it
says that a man keeps his way pure by guarding it according to God’s Word.
Isn’t that what we are all after? A pure life- one that is not defiled by sin
or given over to the same temptation? This happens by arming yourself with
Scripture.
Verse
11 says, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against
you.” Scripture committed to memory wins the battle against sin. Its not about
a list of memorized verses. You memorize Scripture that God uses in your life
to deliver you or encourage you through difficult times. They are verses that
God has imparted meaning to you personally through; they are verses that you
have wrestled with and meditated on. But to find these verses you must be in
God’s Word! Allow Him to reveal Himself to you in this way as you grow closer
to Him.
Romans
15:4- For whatever was written in former days was written for our
instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the
Scriptures we might have hope.
