Psalm 123:1-2

Psalm 123

To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
Behold, as the eyes of servants  look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he has mercy upon us.

A beautiful picture is given in these verses. As the eyes of servants look to the hand of the master, so our eyes look to the Lord our God.

Servants do nothing without the direction of their master. They do this for just a day’s wages and maybe a home to live in. How much more should we be like servants of God? Not only does He promise to provide our daily needs, but He has given us the ultimate gift of His love and Salvation. He is a loving, kind, and merciful master. Why do we do anything without His direction?

Where are your eyes looking for direction? Are you looking to those around you for your decisions? To what friends are doing? What family says? Maybe you look to the American dream- money+success=happiness. Perhaps you are looking to the media and society to determine your path. Why are you looking to anything other than God?

Look to God- enthroned in heaven and allow Him to be enthroned in your life. Seek Him for direction and allow Him to determine the steps in your life. Keep your eyes fixed on Him and He will not lead you astray.

Proverbs 3:6- In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Jeremiah 29:11- For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Proverbs 4:25-27- Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.

Hebrews 12:2- looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
