Ephesians 5
15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making
the best use of the time, because the days are evil.
Verses
15 and 16 say that we should be careful about how we walk, making the best use
of the time. Are you making the best
use of your time?
I
think one of the most dangerous things for the Christian is wasting time. Time
slips away from us so quickly and without even realizing it, we can end up
years down the road with nothing to show for it.
Typically,
how we spend our time isn’t even something we think about… maybe you think
since you aren’t spending your time doing things that are overtly sinful, you
are fine; but the Bible says over and over again that everything we do,
should be done to glorify God. So again, are you making the best use of your
time?
I’m
not saying you can never rest or relax. But is spending 3 or 4 hours watching
TV, Netflix, on facebook, twitter, pinterest, snapchat, instagram, vine or youtube really what is best?
What if you spent your down time building relationships, reading your Bible, in
prayer, sharing the gospel, mentoring someone, or investing in your
children/spouse/family instead? Wouldn’t that certainly count as better, if not
best?
I
know this isn’t easy, it something that requires a conscious choice each day. I
think it really does involve looking carefully at our Christian walk (verse
15). This entire chapter is full of rich descriptions for what our walk should
and should not look like. Take some time and read the chapter and as verse 10
says, try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.
