Ephesians 4
I
therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the
calling to which you have been called…
Are
you walking in a manner that is worthy of your calling as a child of God? Does
the way you are living reflect who you are in Christ and the redemption you
have from our Savior? Is the way you are living worthy to be associated
with Christ?
What
about your current or future ministry calling? Maybe you feel like God wants
you to be a pastor, worship leader, Godly mother or father, youth leader, or
children’s worker. Are you living in a way today that doesn’t tarnish your
reputation in the future?
The
rest of this passage is spent really outlining what walking worthy of our
calling looks like. It requires humility and gentleness, patience, bearing with
others (vs 2), maintaining unity and peace (vs 3), using our gifts to build up
the body of Christ (vs 11-12), maturing in our faith to stand against the devil
(vs 13-14), righteousness and holiness (vs 23), truth and honesty (vs 25), pure
speech (vs 29), kindness and forgiveness (vs 32).
This
is no easy list of characteristics for us to display. Truly the Spirit of God
must work through us to help us live our lives this way. One other
characteristic on the list? Vs 27- give no opportunity to the devil- be on the
offensive and don’t even allow him to have a chance to slip you up. I think
this is what walking worthy of your calling is all about. It doesn’t allow
Satan any ground in your life because you are completely committed to walking
as the person God called you to be.
