1 Corinthians 7:7

1 Corinthians 7

Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him…

What is God’s calling for your life at this moment? I’m not referring to just to a future call, although hopefully your future calling is influencing your today. But what is your role right now? Are you a mother/father? A husband/wife? A sister/brother? A daughter/son? Maybe you’re a student? Employee? Employer? Friend?

These roles are the ‘life that the Lord has assigned to you.’ You might have a future calling that is different than the one you are in currently. Maybe you feel like God wants you to be a teacher, pastor, missionary, or business owner, but right now you are a student, waiter, or cashier. Sure God wants you preparing for that future calling, but He also wants you to fulfill those roles you have already been called to.

So often we get wrapped up in what our future has in store, and we get frustrated with the time it takes to get there. We forget about today and we don’t fill our current roles well. This is not what God wants. He desires for you to do all things well. He wants us to be responsible and trustworthy stewards with what he has given us to do right now.

Are you a student? This is your current calling from God. Be a good student- don’t procrastinate, neglect homework assignments, or only put in half the effort you are capable of. You might not get all A’s, but God wants you to work as if you are working for Him, not just man.

Are you an employee? Work hard and give your best while at work. Are you a parent? Be the type of parent laid out in Scripture. Follow the example of your Heavenly Father. Give 100% to your family, not just enough to get by. Are you a friend to someone? Be a good, Godly friend- not just in the fun and easy times, but when things are tough or a bad decision is made. Keep them accountable, encourage and admonish them in the Lord.

We are all called to be the bride of Christ and children of God. Above all, do this well. Give God your best, your all- not your leftovers. Spend time with Him daily and develop your relationship with Him. Spend time bragging about Him with others and sharing the work He is doing in your life and the lives of those around you. Honor Him with your diligence and faithfulness in all things.

All throughout Scripture, God commands our best. Ecclesiastes says, whatever you do, do it with all your might. 1 Corinthians says in all you do, do it for the glory of God. Colossians says work heartily for God. Whatever God is calling you to, do it to the best of your ability as an offering of worship to God.
