II Corinthians 12:9-10

2 Corinthians 12

And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

In what areas are you weak? Do you struggle with your language? Gossiping? Lust? Being a good steward of your finances? The relationships you seek after? Keeping your priorities in order?

A lot of people feel like they have to be perfect at church. That no one there should know the things they struggle with. But God desires the opposite. He wants you to share your weaknesses and struggles with others. Why? Because God works through your weaknesses.

When you pray and others pray for you to become stronger in areas you are weak in, when you do overcome the problem, the power of God is evident in your life. In verse nine Paul says he will brag about his weaknesses so the power of Christ can be in Him.

Sure, the world tells you to boast about your strengths- what you are good at. Maybe God has gifted you in certain areas and that is great. But it is too easy for people to look at you and see you as really good at ______, rather than seeing God at work through you. But when they look at you and can see that you used to really struggle with something that is no longer a hindrance in your life, or that you are able to serve God in a capacity that you shouldn’t be good at, God’s glory is shown through you.

So maybe you’re frustrated with the things that you struggle with. Good (you shouldn’t be okay with them!). Share those things with others and ask for their prayer for you in those areas. As God starts to free you from those struggles, boast in the power of our Almighty God.
